  • General information on higher education

    Primary responsibility for the quality of higher education in the UK rests with the four individual nations (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland), and with the individual providers, which are autonomous.

    External quality assurance (QA) regulation rests with the Office for Students (OfS). External QA is only applicable to some universities and colleges that require a review assessment to inform the regulatory decision taken by the Office for Students.

    A fully functioning quality assurance system is in operation nationwide but only some higher education institutions are subject to regular external quality assurance by an agency that has successfully demonstrated compliance with the ESG through registration on EQAR

  • European Approach for Quality Assurance of Joint Programmes

    European Approach available to all higher education institutions

    All higher education institutions with degree awarding power are able to approve their own awards and therefore they can employ the European Approach for the quality assurance of their joint programme.
