Report summary
The intention to develop Slovenian studies as an independent interdisciplinary scientific field is positive, but after discussions and analysis, the current state shows several problems. The study programmes do not reflect integration in a suitable work environment or practice, and one of the programmes has not yet been implemented due to a lack of enrolment. The process of British accreditation did bring some positive results to the faculty, enhancing the institution's stronger aspects (peer assessment, personal approach, small number of students). However, we also note that there are very problematic aspects of the research environment and research results at the faculty. The faculty urgently needs to establish and develop an appropriate research base, consolidate it intensively and strengthen it adequately support and upgrade the study process, especially at the third cycle. At the faculty, the potential for internationalisation remains completely unutilized, both among students and the teaching and research staff. This could also be an important basis for greater recognition and cooperation for the faculty. We conclude that there is an urgent need to strengthen and upgrade the quality system, as indispensable support for the development of study programmes at all cycles of study. The higher education institution must also pay more attention to the material working conditions, both for students and teachers who implement the study process. The premises are not properly equipped for traditional study work nor a hybrid way of studying. Furthermore, there is a significant shortcoming in the accessibility and availability of study literature for the field of humanities. The group of experts noticed enthusiasm for the contents of the programme among the otherwise few students, as well as evidence of professional knowledge and dedication of the teaching staff. We recognize that many established experts are gathered at FSMŠ NU. We therefore encourage everyone to consider revising or linking existing study programmes with other institutions. -
