Report summary
The Faculty of Health Sciences Celje (FZVCE) delivers the Nursing and Palliative Care study programmes with well-organised teaching, modern learning methods, and practical training. Theoretical classes are held in person and partly online, providing flexibility especially for part-time students. Practical training is well-structured and takes place in collaboration with numerous healthcare institutions, under the guidance of clinical and academic mentors, ensuring the acquisition of essential clinical skills. Particular attention is given to simulation-based learning and OSCE methods, which enhance students’ preparation for working in real-world settings. Students appreciate individual consultations and the accessibility of professors, which contribute to smooth progress and completion of their studies. An opportunity for improvement lies in expanding the facilities for simulation-based learning and updating course content to align even better with current healthcare needs. In the Palliative Care master’s programme, classes are mainly conducted in the form of individual consultations due to lower enrolment, which calls for strengthening contact hours and research activities so that students can deepen their specialised knowledge in palliative care. The faculty ensures the quality of its teaching staff and encourages continuous professional development and collaboration with employers. Teaching within the study programmes is regularly evaluated and updated for both programmes. This evaluation is carried out through annual surveys, the Quality Forum, and a comprehensive self-evaluation report, which is publicly available. This ensures that the curriculum remains current and maintains a high-quality learning environment. Despite 21 the extensive report, it has been observed that stakeholders who are not directly involved in programme management are often unfamiliar with all the findings, so preparing shorter, more accessible summaries is recommended. The evaluation process collects feedback from students, graduates, teachers, and clinical mentors. In practice, surveys mostly capture quantitative data, while for smaller programmes such as Palliative Care, a more in-depth qualitative analysis through interviews would be beneficial. Based on the analyses, the faculty regularly updates content, especially in clinical training and simulation learning, and adapts courses to the evolving needs of the profession. An identified opportunity for further improvement is to strengthen the feedback loop: to involve stakeholders more actively in developing measures and to better connect collected data with actual programme changes. Clearer and more concise communication of changes and achievements to all stakeholders is also recommended. -
