Report summary
The experts carefully and coordinated reviewed all the submitted documentation and recorded the findings based on an in-depth professional analysis, and above all in the spirit of a meaningful consideration of the planned establishment of a new second-level study program called Visual Arts and Design of the University of Primorska, Faculty of Education (UP PEF). We have noticed good ideas and guidelines for the development of an already active undergraduate program with the same name, which for the investor and proposer (UP PEF) is definitely a good and meaningful journey - especially in terms of upgrading the process of designing the program into a master's study. However, the experts concluded that the upgrade was not sufficiently evident from the application and related attachments. In the evaluation report, we emphasized the need to carefully re-examine all curricula and to connect them horizontally and vertically in a meaningful way so that professional and general competences are meaningfully intertwined and upgraded, and at the same time to redistribute optional subjects, for which we made some suggestions. It also turned out that the literature prescribed in the curricula was partly inaccessible and out of date. Since we noticed some ambiguities or inconsistencies, we noted that the program needs additional substantive and professional corrections. In the evaluation report, the experts pointed out the importance of improving the interdisciplinary approach of cross-curricular connections, whereby more modern knowledge, trends and skills should be taken into account, since more demanding taxonomic levels were not evident from the program. In addition, we also noticed several inconsistencies or major shortcomings related to the conditions for enrollment, assessment methods, the complexity of the program in relation to the professional title, the favoring of the art field and, as a result, interdisciplinarity, which was not clearly defined. In the extensive response to our evaluation report, the UP PEF institute provided comprehensive and weighty explanations and changes that lead to a high-quality and professionally based program. They designed good and meaningful solutions based on the possibilities and opportunities offered by the faculty in terms of personnel, professional and artistic abilities. The experts are convinced that the accredited master's program, taking into account all the planned changes, additions, extensions and professional references, can be classified as a good program in the field of visual arts and design. -
