    Report summary

    In the final report of the sample evaluation of the study programme Kinesiology, Level 3, the members of the NAKVIS team of experts conclude that the Faculty of Sport of the University of Ljubljana meets the quality standards, as no non-compliance with the quality standards and no major shortcomings or inconsistencies have been identified. A total of 20 opportunities for improvement of the quality standards were identified. In area Standard 1, the NAKVIS Expert Group suggests the following opportunities for improvement: a) Constructive approach to the preparation of the self-evaluation of the study programme with a goal-oriented approach - to obtain answers to the questions on how the faculty should change its study programmes; b) Strengthen the role of professors in the self-evaluation report by reflecting on their programme delivery, updating the content and taking measures to improve the pedagogical process; c) Carrying out periodic interviews with students and doctoral students thus ensuring the inclusion of their suggestions/opinions in course updates; d) Conducting periodic interviews with PhD 26 students and graduates and incorporate their suggestions/opinions in the updating of courses; e) Involving external stakeholders, employers, as they could evaluate the relevance of the graduate's competences with their opinion; and f) Enhancing the awareness of the importance and usefulness of the results of the self-evaluation report in the activities of change and updating of the study programmes. Opportunities for improvement in the area of Standard 2 are: a) To improve the preparation of the self-evaluation report of the study programme so that it becomes a clear starting point for proposing actions, implementing the tasks and, consequently, evaluating the implementation; b) Sistematically implement action plan measuresin a way that it introduces the person responsible for implementation of a certain mesure, its time frame of delivery, as well as a periodic check of the achievement of the objectives within a cycle; and c) To encourage the active and constructive participation of all stakeholders in the formulation of the action plan, its implementation and evaluation. With regard to Standard 3, the NAKVIS Expert Group identified two opportunities for improvement: a) to develop a conceptual framework for the curriculum which serves as the basis for introduction of elective courses thus ensuring horizontal and vertical coherence of the curriculum and b) Strengthen social sciences and humanities research content. The following opportunities for improvement are suggested for Standard 4: a) Targeted introduction of science and research communication content (development of research articles, obtaining research funding, communication of research findings) into the regular curriculum; b) Re-evaluate the delivery of the core methodology course and identify ways to adequately prepare students for research in kinesiology; c) Plan the development of content-based elective modules to reduce the dispersion of elective content; d) Better link the competences of the study programme with the subject-specific competences of the individual curriculum; e) Update the recommended literature for each curriculum and refresh or revise the literature periodically; f) Systematically regulate the conditions for funding doctoral projects; and g) Implement procedures to enable early decisions on the topic of the doctoral dissertation and focused study. The NAKVIS Expert Group on Standard 5 identifies the following opportunities for improvement: a) In each curriculum define f the share of each requirement contributing to the final grade thus the equal treatment of students is ensured; b) Sistematically ensure finantial funding of the publication of scientific article required for the completion of the doctoral study programme; and c) Increase and ensure student awarness on the possibility of using research software within the UL.

    Report summary

    Based on the written documentation and the informed interviews the group of experts finds that the Department of Landscape Architecture at the Biotechnical faculty has a wellfunctioning quality culture grounded in their small size and open-door policy. The department provides a study environment where teachers and students feel that they are close and can easily get in a dialogue with each other to influence the mode of teaching, day by day. It is a joint impression by both students, teachers and management that it is easy to develop/change the study conditions for the better, through student evaluations and direct oral feedback. 26 The study at the Landscape Architecture department is split in the BSc and MSc level, emphasizing on design and planning, respectively. The group of experts finds the last year’s improved self-evaluation reports to be useful documents to keep track of the evaluation feedback, needs, improvements and actions, but the reports from the previous several years were too similar from year to year and from level to level to function as a real monitoring and development tool. However, it seems that the size and close dialogue have provided a well-functioning study environment that has detected and acted on the shortcomings and improvement along the way, despite a poor self-evaluation process. Even though the latest self-evaluation reports have significantly improved, there is still a lot of space for improvement and the group of experts hopes, that the suggestions given in this report will be of some help. The management expressed how they consider the self-evaluation report of a study program as an internal short-term plan and they operate with a separate action plan made at the faculty level, informed by the work of the self-evaluation plans on the department level. This shows how there is also a dialogue from the department level upwards, but the group of experts considers that students should be more involved both in the assessment and decision process in the work with the self-evaluation report on the department level and that the implications and action plans should be better communicated back to both students and teachers. In recent years, the department has made some revisions in the study plan (inclusions of new elective courses) amongst other things to strengthen the collaboration with external stakeholders. The group of experts heard from both students and teachers as well as employers that students have acquired updated skills, are fluent in graphic languages and knowledgeable on topics like sustainability and mobility. The group of experts sympathizes with their expressed interest in engaging practicing landscape architects as studio-teachers to better link education with practice, similar to how the Architecture Faculty is allowed to. This could further strengthen the relevance of education and enable detecting urgencies in close collaboration with the profession.

Verifiable Credentials

A Verifiable Credential (VC) is a digitally-signed and thus tamper-evident document containing information on a subject (e.g. personal information, entitlements of an individual, degrees held by an individual or accreditation of a higher education institution). Quality assurance results recorded in DEQAR can be downloaded as W3C-compatible Verifiable Credentials.

Currently, two types of credentials can be issued:

EBSI Verifiable Accreditations (VA) can be used by a higher education institution in the context of the EBSI Early Adopters programme.

  • The VA allows the institution to prove its external quality assurance on the Trusted Issuer Registry (TIR). EBSI VAs are only issued for external quality assurance results with an official status in a national system (“part of obligatory EQA system”).
  • At present, the higher education institution’s EBSI DID needs to be communicated to EQAR and recorded in DEQAR manually at the moment. If you are a higher education institution participating in EBSI, please contact us to register your DID.
  • EBSI VAs are issued by EQAR under its DID did:ebsi:zk4bhCepWSYp9RhZkRPiwUL.

DEQAR Format Verifiable Credentials primarily serve as a proof of concept and public demonstrator currently.

  • DEQAR Format VCs are based on the plain W3C Recommendation and our own data model. While they closely follow the EBSI Schema, no EBSI-specific or EU-specific elements or data types are used.
  • The higher education institution is identified by its DEQAR URI in this case.
  • DEQAR Format VCs are issued by EQAR under its DID did:web:data.deqar.eu.
